Community Council Meeting
Meeting called to order by Helena at 10:00 am. There were 9 members present.
Moment of silence followed by Pledge of Allegiance.
Secretary’s report- minutes of May 9, 2022 were approved by the board via email and are posted on our website.
Treasurer’s report-May 31, 2022 balance in Fort Clark Day account is $4,000.00. That is the startup funds for Fort Clark Days 2023. May 31, 2022 balance in Community Council is $4,950.56. That includes the $2,000.00 set aside for the adult center renovation. That includes the $1,000.00 to be disbursed to Preservation.
OLD BUSINESS
Ad hoc committee
Allison gave a detailed report on the adult center ad hoc committee. They have not met with Mr. Peterson yet. A letter was sent to the FSCA board with suggestions, and it was hoped that the committee will receive a response at Saturday, June 18, meeting. Phillip said he is willing to help with some of the plumbing, but maintenance will not work on any plumbing behind the walls. A lengthy discussion followed with input from the members as to what the work would entail, i.e., toilets in the second floor ladies’ bathroom, fixing the floor, repairing and painting the window sills, doors and more. It was suggested that perhaps the various clubs could be asked to donate some paint. Also, volunteers could be asked to help with the labor. The committee is waiting to hear from Mr. Peterson and the board for further direction.
Motel chairs
Linda O’Brien requested to use our tax-exempt status to pay for the sales tax on chairs purchased at D&D hardware for use outside the motel rooms. Elizabeth Hodges did a great effort to get donations to purchase them. Our board voted via email to let Linda use the exempt card. It is a legal use of the card, and there will not be any financial burden on Community Council.
New Business
“Planet Earth” movie was donated by Travis to show sometime in July at the amphitheater. Allison agreed to man the projector and speakers since they belong to Community Council. There is no cost to Community Council to show the movie since it was donated.
Comments/Concerns
A very lengthy discussion about the status of the pool, springs, and Las Moras Creek. The fort is not going to purchase any water from MUD as it is too expensive, and we would be in violation with Texas Health Department because the water cannot be recirculated or treated with chlorine. Texas Parks and Wildlife employees are going to come out and collect the remaining fish and turtles from the spring area to keep them in safekeeping until it is safe to return them. It was mentioned that one member remembers the same dire condition in 1960.
Next meeting is September 10, 2022
There being nothing further, Helena adjourned the meeting at 10:24 am.
Respectfully submitted,
Kathleen Warm, Secretary
